  September 10, 2010 Newsletter

Greetings Multisporters,

Wow, what an epic day of racing we had last weekend!  I'm not sure what was more enduring; the wind & waves on the paddle, the mudfest on the bike, the slickrocks on the run, the colder than normal temperatures, or the on & off all-day rain......Congratulations to all participants for taking on nature's fury and coming out triumphant!

Results and pictures have been posted on the homepage of our website.  A big thanks to photographer extraordinaire Luis Moreira for capturing all the action, I'm still not sure how he made it around the two courses so quickly.  The pictures are being hosted in our Facebook album so feel free to tag yourselves.

Logs Rocks and Steel is part of the Ontario Adenture Racing Points Series (OARPS), If you participated on a team you automatically receive points in the series.

Youth Invasion  picture of runners

Impressively, we had close to a 100% finish rate on the Frost Course, damn you guys are tough.  We also experienced a bit of a youth invasion with 22 participants aged 18, or under competing on either the Frost, or Championship Courses.  Honourable mentions go to Milla Tarnopolsky (age 10), Ryan Defoa (age 11) and Juliette DeJonge (age 11) who all finished the Frost course on teams with their parents.  Will Hitchon (age 14) took on the Frost course as a soloist and finished in the top 3rd of all participants.  While Aaron Eastmure, Matthew Eastmure, Cameron Raynor and Kip Arlidge all aged 16, or 17 tackled and finished the Championship Course!  Congratulations to all the kids who tackled one of the courses!  Next year we'll be adding both Parent-Child and Youth categories to ensure these kids receive the recognition they deserve.

Thank-You Volunteers

As participants and organizers it's impossible to thank our team of volunteers enough.  We have a great team at Logs Rocks & Steel, which included:

-Greg Chaisson took on the early-morning duties of staffing TA#1 on the Champs course
-Thomas Prentice, course marshal for the 2nd year in a row
-Andrew Cameron, marshaling, timing and a little rescue-mission for good measure
-Shelley Rodgers, marshaling and manned the Police Crossing, sans Police for a short while.
-Iris Neher, who after participating, hung around to help clean up
-Leanne Mueller, registration, boat safety & take-down
-Our Medic Team, led by Shannon Koppenhoefer of Advanced Response Training, these guys worked a long & hard day making sure everyone made it home safe & sound.
-Geoff Langford, utility man, making sure supplies & people made it where they needed to be.
-Sally Heath, timing, marshaling and ensuring all cleared the course.
-Mike Hennessy, marshaling
-Cody Gillies for all his help pre & post event.

I know numerous other participants and spectators pitched-in ensuring the event experience was great for all.  A huge thank you to all our volunteers!

Off to The World Championships

Congratulations to Barb Campbell and Jack Van Dorp who won their respective categories in the Solo divisions on the Championship Course at Logs Rocks and Steel.  Barb & Jack won $1000, plus free entry into the World Multisport Championships, which are hosted annually in New Zealand.  This is the 2nd year in a row Jack won Logs Rocks & Steel, and he placed an impressive 12th in his first attempt at the World Championships earlier this year.  The 2011 Championships will be held on February 12, 2011, making training for the event a bit unique in the northern hemisphere.  We'll be following and rooting for Jack and Barb as they prepare for their journey down south, good luck guys!
