Greetings Multisporters,

Course Testing Pictures  picture of runners

I was in Haliburton County a few weeks ago, joined by good friend and long-time adventure racer Barb Campbell.  We checked out sections of trail running and paddling from both courses.  For a full recap of the day, including pictures and a GPS track you could visit Barb's training log.  Or, feel free to visit our new Facebook page, where we've posted many more pictures in a photo album.

For those tackling the Championship Course this year you'll encounter a new section I like to call "rough & rugged", which lasts for 2k on the trail run and utilizes an old trail that hasn't been visited for at least 20 years.  Let's just say it's a bit overgrown & contains plenty of deadfall.  Don't worry though, it will be dutifully marked for your enjoyment.
Host Site Update

As some of you may have heard, our host site, The Frost Centre Institute has closed for general operations. More information about the closing can be found in the following article from the Minden Times. We've been in touch with the property owners (The Ontario Realty Corporation), and they've kindly agreed to still allow us to host the event on the property.  The courses and event experience will remain the same, but we'll no longer have access to buildings for on-site accommodations.  The good news is free camping will now be allowed on-site.  For alternate in-door accommodation options, visit the Race Details page of our website.

Help spread the word about Logs Rocks and Steel by passing along this link to our new poster, or even better, print one off & have it displayed at your local outdoor store, bike shop, fitness club, gym, paddling club, or running store.

Prizing Update

New for 2010, along with free entry to the World Multisport Championships in New Zealand, the 1st place solo male and female on the Championship course will receive $1000 cash* to help offset travel costs.

Also new for 2010, we'll be recognizing Masters (age 45+) categories in the Solo divisions for both the "Frost" and "Championship" courses.  As more participants register we'll continue to expand the categories recognized for prizing.

*Cash must be used to offset travel expenses while participating in the World Multisport Championships.  Cash & free-entry prizes are only available to Canadian citizens.

Upcoming Events:

Angry Seagull Adventure Race (August 7/8, 2010). Rosseau, Ontario.  A great introduction to overnight adventure/expedition racing.  Now in it's 4th year, the course will run through the scenic & rugged landscape of Muskoka.

(August 28/29, 2010).  Ontario's classic 24hr mountain bike race run by the provinces consummate mountain bike event organizers, Chico Racing.  Last I heard there were still a few team spots available, so sign up ASAP.

Frontier Adventure Challenge Fall Classic (September 25, 2010).  Red Leaves Resort, Muskoka Ontario.  A 12hr adventure race in the heart of cottage country.  Often considered the championship of the summer sprint AR calendar, expect a remote & scenic course in stunning fall colours.

Sincerely,

Bob Miller
