The Return of Traditional 24hr Adventure Racing in Ontario

After lamenting the loss of classic, wilderness-based, 24hr adventure races from the Ontario multisport calendar I've decided to re-introduce this exciting format of racing.  The inaugural Wilderness Traverse will be a 'back-to-basics' adventure race where coed and open teams of 3 or 4 will mountain bike, paddle, and trek across a remote region of the Haliburton Highlands. Route choices throughout all disciplines will be abundant, making navigation strategy a key element of a team's ability to go the distance. The racecourse itself is roughly 130 km in distance and teams will have up to 30 hours to complete it.  The event is designed to attract all-levels of adventure enthusiasts who want to push their physical and mental limits in an awe-inspiring backcountry setting.  Physical fitness will be an asset but mental fortitude and a team-first attitude will be a deciding factor in who achieves their goals.

The event website can be found at the following link: www.wildernesstraverse.com

And a full press release can be viewed by clicking here.

Kayaksport

If you saw those sleek racing kayaks at last years Logs Rocks and Steel and thought, man, I gotta have one.  Look no further than www.kayaksport.net.  Kayaksport is a Toronto-based importer of kayaks for the fitness and racing community.  The owner, Michael Fekete is very customer-friendly and will let you demo a boat for the weekend, or meet you at a convenient location around the city of Toronto to test different models.  There are also some great videos on his website showing optimal paddling technique by Olympic caliber paddlers.  Michael can be contacted by email: kayaksport@rogers.com

Upcoming Events:

Salomon Snowshoe Raid (Feb. 20, 2010) Eastern Canada's Largest Snowshoe race, which I also organize in co-operation with Golden Horseshoe Orienteering.  It's perfect for all ages & abilities.

Step It Up For Kevin (Feb. 27, 2010)  An amazing fund-raiser for a local paramedic who recently suffered a spinal cord injury.

The 24HR Spin (March 6-7, 2010) Organized by our friends at Gears Bike Shop, this charity ride is not to be missed, you won't believe the energy created!

Storm The Trent (May 15-16, 2010) Canada's largest Adventure Event!  I competed last year & enjoyed a great course designed for all skill levels.

Sincerely,

Bob Miller
