Q. We are a little concerned about the mtb section of the Championship course. Just how difficult is it?
A. Overall, the mtb section is moderately difficult, mostly due to it's length, and abundance of hills. It's approx. 40% gravel road/fire road and 60% double track. This year's mountain bike route is almost 100% rideable, depending on your bike handling skills, and we've managed to avoid any wet, or boggy sections, which were abundant on last years course.
Q. Can I earn points towards the Ontario Adventure Racing Points Series (OARPS) as a soloist?
A. No. At Logs Rocks and Steel, only Teams of 2 will earn points for OARPS.
Q. Is there a minimum age for participants?
A. Kids 14 years of age or less need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Q. Is camping available at, or near the host site?
A. The Frost Centre Institute does not allow camping on it's property, however, there is a rustic area located approx. 1km away from the Frost Centre that is available for free camping. This area is situated on Crown Land, and as such Crown Land camping rules apply:
Ministry Of Natural Resources :: Camping on Crown Land
Please note, there won't be any amenities, such as washrooms at the camping site.
Q. Can I use a "hybrid" bike for the mountain biking portion of the event?
A. We highly recommend using a mountain bike for this year's course. However, you might be able to get away with using a hybrid bike if it has front suspension & your bike handling skills are excellent.
Q: Can you tell me what kind of kayaks participants are being provided (if you rent for the race)?
A: The kayaks we have available for rent are coming from Algonquin Outfitters and the Frost Centre Institute, there will be a variety of models to choose from ranging in length from 16ft to 13ft. and in width from 26" to 23". They will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis the morning of the event.
Q: On the Championship Course, are the portages over trails, or through wetlands?
A: The portages are over trails. They are official portages marked with standard signage by Algonquin Highlands Township.
